Managing Neuropathy in Feet
Neuropathy is a disease that targets the nerves in the hands and in feet. It is a kind of nerve damage that affects the sensations of the patients in their peripheral body parts. The most common people who develop neuropathy in feet are those who are diabetic. Because of the loss of sensation in feet, diabetics tend to get wounds, blisters and calluses on their feet without knowing about it. It will lead to ulcer, infection and amputation. If you have diabetes, always check your feet. Check your feet daily to see if there are any calluses, little blisters or cuts. Do not walk barefoot and keep away all pointed objects on the floor. Also, be careful when you’re wearing socks and shoes. Don’t wear small socks and shoes that are not padded. You should always buy soft shoes and cotton socks.

Exercise and stretch your feet. Your doctor can advise you on the exercises and stretches for your feet. They help in the good circulation of the blood. They also keep the muscles healthy. There are instances with foot neuropathy in which patients became immobilized because of the nerve damaged. This can be avoided by daily exercise.
Have a healthy diet. When you manage your diabetes well, you are also managing your neuropathy well. One of the most important is your diet. Don’t eat food high on sugar and fat as this will have an effect on your insulin level which will have an effect on your neuropathy. Eat lots of vegetables, fruits and whole grain. Discontinue cigarette smoking and avoid alcoholic drinks.
To relieve pain in your feet, massage them or have someone massage them. Massage with a pain relieving cream when you feel pain in your feet. It doesn’t only relieve you of pain, it also stimulates the nerves and it also improve the circulation of blood to your feet.
Having neuropathy in feet is difficult for diabetics but with daily care of the feet, the pain associated with it can be tolerated.
